When we interviewed US Olympic pole vault champion Jenn Suhr earlier this year she told us about her quirky training facility in Riga, New York state. The freezing base has helped propel her to the world indoor pole vault record, so SPIKES braved the cold to find out more…

Jenn Suhr tells SPIKES how she won the mental battle to crack Isinbayeva’s record, and why she’s the underdog in Moscow.
No annual indoor athletics event quite holds the status of the Millrose Games, so it would be remiss of SPIKES not to take a nosy at what we can see this year.

Tight for the tape: France’s Linda Ferga-Khodadin edges the USA’s Danielle Carruthers for the 60m hurdles win in 2005.
And here she is sending the crowd wild in Fredonia, New York.

How did you celebrate winning your PV gold medal at London 2012?
I decided I wanted to celebrate with people who helped support me in Western New York. No better way to celebrate the Vault than by vaulting some more. So I did a tour of vaults in the region. One of them was right down middle of the street in the town center of Fredonia, New York.
If you had to choose another event outside of the Pole Vault you would want to star in what would it be and why?
I would choose any event that requires only track spikes and a uniform because travelling with poles is challenging.
