1 – The amount of times Ireland’s Fionnuala Britton slipped on her bum en route to taking a comprehensive victory in the senior women’s race at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross. She came a cropper in the final 1km, but still won by a margin of 16 seconds.
3 – The number of men who recorded the same time of 28:42 for the first three finishing positions in Italy’s prestigious Campaccio race at San Giorgio su Legnano. Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris of Ethiopia shaded the victory from Kenyan duo John Kipkoech and Geoffrey Kirui.
50 – The number of years super coach Clyde Hart, 78, has spent working at Baylor University in Texas. A special anniversary dinner was organised to celebrate the feat over the weekend. Hart has guided three athletes; Michael Johnson (1996 and 2000), Jeremy Wariner (2004) and Sanya Richards-Ross (2012), to Olympic 400m titles.
The Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country returns to the Scottish capital on Saturday (Jan 5) and SPIKES previews the action.

-6 – The temperature below zero that the thermometer plunged yesterday in Budapest as Hungary hosted the 2012 European Cross Country Championships. The competitors had to tackle a snow-covered #eurocross course.
1 – The number of senior women who have successfully defended the European Cross Country title. Yesterday, Ireland’s Fionnuala Britton became the first since the inception of the event in 1994.
