In preparation for Moscow, SPIKES has tracked down 10 great world champions to ask them about their first golden moment. St Kitts & Nevis sprinter Kim Collins caused a shock in 2003, winning the world 100m title by a whisker in Paris.
“Every time I remember winning the 100m in Paris, the memory is always different. However, I find describing the feeling really difficult. I was not sure how I was supposed to feel.
"First I was in shock, as I thought Darrel Brown had won. To this day, I’m still shocked that I became world champion.
"I celebrated in what I call HBO taxicab confession style in Paris after the race.
"After winning the title I bought myself a six bedroom house."
