From itchy wool jumpers and dodgy driving to dinner with an old rocket scientist. Prepare to experience the wonderful world of Anna Chicherova.
If you had to choose another event to star in, what it would be?
I like triple jump, hurdles, pole vault and javelin. Javelin photos from Daegu, with just the thrower and the sky, are so beautiful! Generally I like technical events. The only thing I would never be able to do in athletics is to run long distances.
What did you have for breakfast today?
A piece of white bread with caviar and a boiled egg.
Would you ever extend that to be a pre-competition snack?
Generally I try not to eat before the competition. If the competition is in the evening, I have a good breakfast, and then have a cup of coffee with an almond chocolate in the afternoon.
What are your plans for today?
To have a driving lesson at the Moscow State University. I have my driving licence but I am not a good driver at all yet!
Could you name your three celebrity dinner party guests?
Bernard Werber [French science fiction writer], Konstantin Ziolkowski [Russian rocket scientist] and Marilyn Monroe!
Have you heard the one about Anna Chicherova, Marilyn Monroe, the sci-fi author and the 19th century rocket scientist?
If anyone could play you in a film, who would it be?
I have no idea. I like movies but I am not a big specialist. Several times I’ve been told that I look similar with Julia Roberts but I am not sure if it is really true.
Who was your most impressive teacher at school?
Russian language and literature teacher, Tatyana Smirnova. She told us so many interesting things about the subject.
What’s the one thing you have to take with you around the circuit?
The photo of my small daughter Nika.
Do you have any superstitions?
Sometimes when I see four identical figures on the clock, like 22.22, I make a wish.
If you weren’t an athlete, what would you be doing?
I like to help to people. Generally I am a good performer, but not the best manager.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever worn?
I hate woollen clothes! They seem too prickly and annoying to me.
How much money do you have in your pocket at the moment?
None. Only a handkerchief! But I often find in the pockets of my winter jackets some forgotten roubles, and this makes me laugh.
Do you have a favorite holiday destination?
Bali. I’ve been there once, and emotionally this place is very close to my character. I love the nature, the atmosphere. My dream is to go back there with my daughter Nika, when she is a little bit older for travelling that far.
