Adam Gemili on Michael Owen
The world junior 100m champion is also a big Liverpool FC fan, so it’s perhaps no great surprise that his hero growing up was lightning-quick England striker Michael Owen.

“I used to really respect, and still do respect, Michael Owen. I really rate him as a player and a person. I recall he bought a whole street of houses for his family. He obviously looked after them well.
“My first memories of watching him playing were the 2002 World Cup and I really remember the whole tournament and that England team. The ball was always played over the top to him and he was lightning fast.
“I’ve met him before when I was a ballboy at Chelsea as a youngster. My dad got his autograph but as a ballboy we used to go on the pitch and retrieve the balls and that’s where I met. I told him I was a huge fan: ‘I love what you do’.”
